A Rare Case of Cytomegalovirus Retinitis in a Young Immunocompetent Patient

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is known to be the most common opportunistic infection in immunocompromised cases, and CMV retinitis ocular manifestation. Severe with involvement of macula or retinal necrosis can lead vision loss. Prompt diagnosis treatment restrict disease's progression. We describe case a 30-year-old man who presented chief complaint progressive diminution both eyes for 15 days. Diminution was associated fever skin rashes. The patient had no history diabetes, hypertension, tuberculosis, trauma, surgery, organ transplant history, immunosuppression, previous drug except paracetamol tablets fever. On examination on day presentation, patient's best corrected visual acuity Snellen’s chart 6/12 6/24 right left eyes, respectively. Fundus revealed well-defined optic disc peripapillary flame-shaped hemorrhages exudates an epiretinal membrane. spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), macular edema 469 µm 421 serological examination, only cytomegalovirus IgG came out positive (1196.65 AU/ml). Based clinical findings, fundus lab investigations, diagnosed as having systemic retinitis, started intravenous ganciclovir. With timely management, patient’s recovered. This rare report regarding development completely immunocompetent individual.
